The
island is completely flat, without hills, and it is separated from the
mainland through the Yalahau Lagoon. In the Mayan language: "Yal"
means water and "Ahau" means king. At the end of the lagoon
but on the continent you can find "el Ojo del agua", a small
cenote or spring of fresh cristal clear sweet water. The local mythology
states that this spring is a fountain of youth. The Yalahau lagoon embraces
between others: Isla Morena or Isla Pájaros, where you can find
the most important species of birds in the area. |
